Youth-led · Music Education

Every student deserves the chance to make music.

The Music Unlocked Project connects experienced student musicians with Arizona students facing barriers to music education and raises funds to expand access to music-learning resources.

Our mission

Built by student musicians who know the difference music can make.

Too many Arizona students never get the chance to learn an instrument, not because they lack talent or passion, but because their school ran out of funding. The Music Unlocked Project exists to close that gap, one student and one lesson at a time.

The problem

The gap in music education is real, and it is measurable.

In Arizona, access to quality arts education is deeply unequal. Here is what the data shows:

50%

Schools with $0 arts budget

Half of Arizona schools reported a budget of $0 to support arts education, and 79% reported spending less than $1 per pupil per year, less than half a cent per day.

134,203

Students without access

More than 134,203 students, about 13% of Arizona students, attend school every day with no access to arts education taught by a highly qualified teacher.

56%

Schools with outdated curricula

56% of Arizona schools have yet to update their curricula to reflect current Arizona arts education standards.

What we do

How we bring music education to students who need it most.

Every part of our program is designed and delivered by student musicians who want to share what music has given them.

Free music lessons

Experienced high school musicians provide free, one-on-one and small-group music instruction to students who lack access to school music education.

Music-learning resources

We fundraise to provide students with sheet music, practice materials, instructional books, and other resources they need to grow as musicians.

Student-to-student connection

We match volunteer student musicians with learners in underserved Arizona communities, building mentorship alongside music skills.

Fundraising for access

We run campaigns to fund instruments, supplies, and program costs so that no student is turned away due to a lack of resources.

Community outreach

We partner with schools and community organizations to identify students who need support and connect them with our volunteer musicians.

Program development

We continuously grow our curriculum, volunteer network, and resource library so we can reach more students and more schools over time.

Help us reach the next 100 students.

Every donation goes directly toward music-learning resources, instructional materials, and the student musicians who make it all happen.
